Matvey Kiselev — 14 years

Cerebrsl palsy, autism spectrum disorders, mental retardation

Visiting the doctors of St. Petersburg for examination and maybe also brain surgery

January 2017

Matvey Kiselev had a stroke – a bleeding episode in the brain on the ninth day of his life. Since the incident has happened at night, doctors discovered and started to deal with it only in the morning. Child underwent craniotomy and operation on the brain, part of which turned out to be badly damaged. Doctors said that after such damage the boy would not be able to walk. But fortunately with the help of constant exercising Matvey can perform normally, almost like healthy children. The consequence of the stroke is that the boy has epilepsy now, resulting in attacks which are still occurring twice a day everyday, in the morning and evening. The boy was diagnosed with autism, but still was able to attend a regular kindergarten; now he goes to a specialized school, attending the class in total of five people and has an individual education program.

In the first two-three years of life Matvey was no different from other children. By playing and interacting with them, he observed what they were doing and repeated that. At home, mother is constantly engaging him in activities, he has a lot of educational toys serving different purposes, such as improving concentration skills. Matvey is a hyperactive boy, he is constantly in a state of motion, so these toys and games are very necessary for him.

Matvey was able to say some words before school; but now, unfortunately, he expresses his emotions and requests only by sounds. Matvey’s mother Natalia has a special folder containing cards with images of different subjects to make communication easier for both. At this point, this is Matvey’s language.

All of Matvey Kiselev’s examination results were shown to neurosurgeons in St. Petersburg, and they are waiting for the boy to visit them at the beginning of the next year to be examined. He may need a very complex brain surgery. We are kindly asking all of those who can help this boy to respond.

Thanks for all donators!
